(SANDY, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers and Clackamas County interagency crash investigation team, are investigating a fatal crash that happened Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 26 and the east end of SE Orient Drive.

State troopers say the Saturday afternoon two-vehicle traffic crash resulted in the death of an Eagle Creek mother and her daughter, and non-life threatening injuries to a third person.

According to preliminary information, Saturday at approximately 5:00 p.m., the two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 26 and SE Orient Drive about one-half mile west of Sandy.

The collision involved a 1987 Toyota 4Runner sport utility vehicle driven by 18-year old Matthew Daniel Ingle of Estacada, and a 2005 Toyota Corolla four-door driven by 42-year old Pamela L. Benson of Eagle Creek.

Pamela Benson was using safety restraints and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her 11-year old daughter, Clarice Marie Benson, was in the right rear seat. She was transported by LifeFlight to Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) where she was pronounced deceased.

Ingle was extricated from his vehicle by fire personnel from Sandy and Boring fire departments, and then he was transported by AMR ambulance to OHSU with non-life threatening injuries. Safety restraint use is pending confirmation.

Investigators kept Highway 26 closed for several hours throughout the night.

Oregon Department of Transportation crews established the detour around the scene and the Sandy Fire Department responded to the scene to handle initial medical treatment, Hastings said.
