Man Dies From Motorcycle Crash Near McMinnville

The driver is hospitalized with serious injuries.

(AMITY, Ore.) - An Amity-area man died Friday evening at a Portland hospital from injuries sustained in a July 24th crash along Highway 99W near McMinnville.

On July 24, 2010 at approximately 1:25 p.m. a 2001 Indian motorcycle operated by 45-year old Gilbert Hoakenson, from Amity, was southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 41 when it failed to negotiate a left curve. The motorcycle traveled off the highway along a ditch and crashed.

Mr. Hoakenson was transported by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville with serious injuries. He was operating the motorcycle with a suspended license.

Passenger 60-year old Timothy Gibson, also from Amity, was critically injured and transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner notified OSP that Mr. Gibson died Friday evening, July 30th.

Both men were wearing protective headgear.

OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, McMinnville Police Department, McMinnville Fire Department, Amity Fire Department, and ODOT.

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
