The exercise involves the simulated capsizing of a vessel with 30 people onboard.

Salem-News.com

(NEWPORT) - The U.S. Coast Guard will conduct a simulated mass rescue exercise Wednesday beginning at 1:00 PM, in Yaquina Bay.

The scenario for the exercise will simulate a fishing vessel with 30 people onboard capsizing on the Yaquina River.

The drill is designed to exercise and evaluate the ability of the Coast Guard and other agencies to respond to an emergency at sea.

Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay, Coast Guard Air Station North Bend, The Newport Police Department, The Newport Fire Department, Lincoln County's 911 Center and the Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital plan to participate in the drill.
