We have to stop destroying ourselves as a race.
(CLEVELAND) - A most profound and controversial message was left on the earth two thousand years ago by a man we refer to today as Jesus Christ, known in the Christian world as the Son of God and recognized by the Muslim faith as a prophet from God.
The message this man left behind is almost unconscionable in today's society.
He wanted people to live in peace, to abandon warring ambitions, and most importantly, to remember him. He asked that we thank him when we eat and drink, and that we love our enemies and turn the other cheek if they slap us.
The United States of American prides itself for being a 'Nation under God' yet it constantly attacks weaker countries that are easy wins (Except Vietnam and Afghanistan) and almost always oil seems to be a present factor.
In the old days the dreaded enemy was Communism, and today it is hard to say just what it is... some warped view of certain groups of people because they are Muslim, or a President who is willing to nationalize oil south of the U.S. border... those are the touted enemies.
Yet really they are not. We have to stop destroying ourselves as a race. Jesus Christ asked us to live in peace, to love our neighbor, and we have other super basic aspects of his teachings to guide us.
JST (aka) Jesus Standard Time
Ask several different people to look at their watch,
Standard time surfaced in the 1800’s due to the railroad,
As it was way back then so it’s happening in society today,
Cain! Man’s standard time embellishing what evil has done,
Are you faithfully remembering ashes to ashes, dust to dust?
Is there any struggle to find encouraging words by friends?
“For we walk by faith” in Jesus Standard Time,
Does everyone understand upon taking that very last breath?
By Luke Easter
Isn’t it amazing that a crime committed back in 1974,
Occurring more & more the news is filled with examples,
I can see the difference between a blue jay and a pigeon,
There are scientific methods used to determine whose DNA,
We know some things are inherent like the breast cancer gene,
Many are the evil ones, who thought they were just way too bad,
Many times only DNA can separate innocence from guilt,
The unique thing about this DNA is that we have a choice,
Understand that this is a process, meaning it takes a while,
Because the promises are later, not sooner don’t walk away,
You don’t need a test to separate dark from light or good from bad,

Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in.
We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end.
Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. You can write to Luke Easter at: firstname.lastname@example.org
