(CANBY) - Early Tuesday morning, firefighters and paramedics from Canby Fire District responded to a possible childbirth, located at 650 SE 7th Place in Canby.

Initial dispatch information indicated that the "baby was coming out!"

When firefighters arrived just five minutes later, they found mom, dad, and baby upstairs in the hallway between the bedroom and bathroom.

The baby was with the mother with the umbilical cord still attached.

When paramedic assessed the newborn they found that she was struggling; her pulse was slow, her respiration also slow, and her activity level below normal levels.

Paramedics Val Codino, Tighe Vroman, and Bob Pulford took charge of patient care and quickly started resuscitation efforts, which included oral and nasal suctioning, supplemental oxygen, and stimulation.

The young patient was then quickly transported to Median Park Hospital by Canby Paramedics.

The mother told paramedics this was her third child. She told them she just started having contractions and the next thing she knew her water broke and out came the baby. The mother was also transported to Meridian Park Hospital, but in a different ambulance than the newborn.

Paramedics claim that their job was easy, this time.

Dad stayed calm, called 9-1-1, and assisted in the delivery, which occurred just before emergency crews arrived.

Firefighters also praise their dispatch center, who gave explicit instruction to the father, who ultimately brought his new daughter into the world.

For a minute there I was wondering how you found a picture of my hands with a baby. Then I realized the hair on the forearm was a little darker than mine.
