(GENEVA) - Since the end of civil war on May 19, 2009, the Sri Lankan Government has been increasingly manifesting its racist, militaristic, despotic tendencies. The life of Tamils in North and East of Sri Lanka who survived the government massacres three years ago live today under duress and military occupation.

We the People - Your Voice in Government is petitioning the Obama administration to pay close attention to upcoming UPR of SriLanka at UNHRC, and lawlessness and impunity prevailing currently there.

    We believe that only a timely intervention by the US President in the UPR-2012 of Sri Lanka in UNHRC, Geneva in Oct.-Nov.2012, can eliminate Sri Lanka's chance of twisting this session into another congratulatory meeting for its genocidal activities.

    Sri Lanka needs to be admonished for impunity, lawlessness and systemic genocide in regard to Illegal detentions, enforced disappearances, Nazi style Lebensraum" and Anschluss happening in ancestral Tamil lands, destruction or conversion of heritage, religious & archeological sites and Suppression of press freedom.

Salem-News.com has invested thousands of hours into researching this dirty war where one side massacred another and in the process, committed 'total war' which is the very behavior that the Geneva Accords were created to avoid in the first place. We were recently honored by more than 3000 Tamils from around the world in Baltimore for our reports on the war crimes in Sri Lanka. The video below is from my keynote address at this special event, called FeTNA (Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America) and also USTPAC (United States Tamil Political Action Committee) and I include this because I want people to appreciate that

a} Tamils from Sri Lanka suffered in silence; and

b} this is news that should have been extensively reported by the mainstream press;

C} Agencies that claim to cover world news mostly ignored it and it required the services of our Oregon-based group to project the magnitude of what took place.

It is a crying shame that TGTE has been able to muster only 244 signatures after 20 days. Some of the signatures are from Tamils who are Non Americans living out of other countries.. This is a sad reflection on TGTE and others who have sponsored this petition. Donald Gnanakone
