(SALEM) - The Oregon Military Department has announced the promotion of Captain Scott Hildebrandt to the rank of Major and his selection as the Deputy to the Inspector General for the Oregon National Guard. Hildebrandt has had a long career with the military, starting with his enlistment into the U.S. Army in 1988. Upon his release he joined the National Guard and served in Pendleton and Baker City while attending Eastern Oregon University. Upon graduation from college he was commissioned as an officer and has since held many positions in the National Guard in Eastern, Southern and Western Oregon. He has deployed to Saudi Arabia, Japan's Northwind Exercise, and the Combat Training Center in Germany. In 2004, as the commander of Delta Company, 2-162 from Coos Bay, Major Hildebrandt led over 130 soldiers in combat in Baghdad, Iraq during some of the fiercest fighting of the conflict. His unit was successful in over 45 raids and searches and numerous security missions which resulted in the capture and neutralization of over two hundred enemy soldiers. After demobilization, Scott Hildebrandt was selected to become full time in the National Guard and spent his first year as the Mobilization Plans Officer. During this time he was deployed as a Battalion Assistant Operations Officer for Operation Katrina providing assistance in New Orleans after Hurricane's Katrina and Rita. Major Scott Hildebrandt's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Iraqi Campaign medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (3 Awards), the Army Achievement Medal (3 Awards), the Army Expeditionary Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He lives in Monmouth with his wife Jessica and sons Andrew, Logan and Wyatt. His parents, Larry and Mary Hildebrandt live in La Grande.
