Train Crashes Into Car on Tracks Killing Driver

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - A freight train hit a vehicle at a train crossing Saturday night in Clark County and pushed the car up to 3/4 of a mile before it was able to stop.

Investigation at the scene indicated that the vehicle was struck by the westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train at a private grade crossing in the 18100 block of Old Evergreen Hwy, rail mile post 19.9.

Emergency responders, Vancouver Fire and Vancouver Police, were alerted at 8:38 PM, and when they arrived on the scene, the Subaru station wagon was still on the tracks in front of the stopped train.

The driver was the vehicle was located deceased inside the vehicle. At this time the name of the deceased is not being released pending the notification of next of kin.

The case is being investigated by the Clark County Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Unit.
