Police Warning Regarding Weather-related CrashesSalem-News.comODOT and OSP urge travelers to know before you go and monitor your local weather forecasts and road conditions.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon State Police responded to well over 100 traffic crashes since midnight throughout Oregon with the busiest areas being southern Oregon and the lower Willamette Valley. Police are asking drivers to slow down and stay alive. Maintaining lower speeds greatly increases your chance of staying alive if you do crash. Make sure people know where you are traveling. Based upon information provide through OSP dispatch centers: * The Jackson County area appears to have been the busiest, where troopers responded to over 50 reported traffic crashes between midnight and 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. During that same period troopers responded to 10 crashes in Douglas County and 7 in Josephine County. * Troopers working in the Salem area south into Lane County responded to approximately 25 traffic crashes between 10:00 p.m., Friday, and 4:00 a.m. Saturday.
