Weather Doesn't Prevent TVF&R Crews From Containing Fast Spreading Fire‏

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Fire crews from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue and Lake Oswego Fire, were called out to a rural Clackamas County residence Tuesday night at 8:13 PM, after residents reported a fire in the basement and the house filling with smoke.

TVF&R reports that the occupants escaped the home without injury. Fire crews with all apparatus chained for traction encountered steep icy roads and no fire hydrants in the rural neighborhood east of Tualatin.

The lack of hydrants required fire crews to bring their firefighting water with them while difficult access additionally required firefighters to lay fire hoses long distances.

The combination of these challenges along with the extreme cold weather conditions required extra resources causing the fire to go to a second alarm.

Despite these difficulties, firefighters reportedly made an aggressive attack containing the fast spreading fire from spreading to the first floor of the home.

The preliminary cause of the fire was believed to be related to the furnace. Fire investigators are on scene conducting the origin and cause investigation.

No damage estimates are available at this time.
