This is part of the Cascadia subduction zone where a ocean plate is sliding under a land plate. In 1700 Japan was hit by a very large wave, that came from this area guess are that it could have been an 8 or great mag. The Juan de Fuca plate run from norther CA to Canada, a rupture could happen anywhere along that ridge.

am assuming it's this end of the San Andreas? and a good question previous.,any speculation as to when?, and viability of warning system? The Asian tsunami struck with five to eight meter,(18-24 foot) waves and a current that took only two and a half hours to travel up to 600 kilometers.,the same as 400 miles., before landfall and procceded over two miles inland in many areas. Just a thought.

So, what will this do to the fault? Realease pressure or build up pressure? Is this the four-runner to the big one?
