(ALBANY, Ore.) - A student has been arrested at Linn Benton College for allegedly making statements about school shooters, issuing threats and purchasing a rifle that some students say he planned to use against them on campus.

It began January 31st when Albany Police Department received information from security staff at the Linn Benton Community College who had taken a report from a witness. The witness reported, Orion W. Cannon, made recent statements about admiring school shootings, and general threats against students at LBCC, where he is currently enrolled as a student.

It was also alleged Cannon recently purchased a rifle and was trying to figure out how to get the rifle to the college. Both police agencies from Albany and Corvallis quickly investigated the allegations and confirmed Cannon had recently purchased a rifle from a Corvallis business.

Within hours, the Corvallis Police Department obtained a search warrant for Cannon's residence which was executed with the assistance of the Oregon State Police SWAT. Police officers located a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition from inside the residence. Cannon was arrested and lodged at the Benton County Correctional Facility where he is still in custody.

26-year old Orion W. Cannon of Corvallis was arrested and charged with Attempted Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Class A Misdemeanor.

Lieutenant Dave Henslee with Corvallis Police says suggestions of violence are not acceptable, "The Corvallis Police Department will not condone violence, or threats of violence within our schools. Anyone witnessing this type of behavior should immediately report the incident to authorities."

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Brett Roach at (541)766-6924.
