Winter Hawks Paint the Ice Pink for Cancer Awareness NightSalem-News.comThe Hawks turn the ice pink for the game this Friday night against the Tri-City Americans at 7:30 in the Memorial Coliseum.
(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - The pink playing surface will be the main symbol of a night to focus on remembering those lost to cancer, encouraging those who are fighting cancer and celebrating those who have beaten cancer. "OHSU statistics show that approximately 17,000 Oregonians face a cancer diagnosis each year," said Winter Hawks President, Jack Donovan. Winter Hawks Director of Player Education, Marcia Chisholm, who underwent successful cancer treatments in 2007, will represent the fighters and survivors by dropping the ceremonial first puck prior to the game. The Ultimate Hockey Experience Auction will take place during the game and give fans an opportunity to win items such as two spots on the team bus and tickets to the March 9, 2008 game in Tri-Cities, Zamboni driving lessons (courtesy of Global Spectrum) a chance to announce the Winter Hawks starting line-up at the Memorial Coliseum, a period on the radio as the Color Commentator with Hawks Play-by-Play voice, Andy Kemper and more. This will be a sealed bid auction and all proceeds will be donated to the OHSU Cancer Institute. Winter Hawks and KINK 101.9 FM are also offering discount ticket vouchers to the game. Each voucher will allow fans to buy four tickets for just twenty dollars. The Winter Hawks will then donate five dollars to the OHSU Cancer Institute for each voucher redeemed.
