Lieutenant Mark Cotter with Oregon State Police says last night at approximately 10:25 p.m., the woman and two companions had stopped their vehicle on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 34 near milepost 11.

They were attempting to locate some property that had fallen from their vehicle.

The female, 23-year old Angela Sue Trickel of Albany, was crossing the roadway toward the north side of the highway and was struck in the westbound traffic lanes by a 1986 Dodge Caravan, driven by 61-year old Ruth Ann Wood of Albany.

Ms. Trickel was deceased at the scene. Wood was not injured.

The Oregon State Police Albany Area Command is continuing the investigation.

The westbound lanes of Highway 34 were closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours, as Oregon Highway crews directed traffic through the scene.
