Five Individuals Recognized for Efforts to Combat Child Abuse

Participants at this year's conference included law enforcement officers, employees from Department of Human Services, medical professionals, attorneys from the Oregon Department of Justice, and prosecutors from agencies across the state.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Five individuals from Salem, Hillsboro, Portland, and Columbia and Deschutes County were recognized Thursday for their work in support of combating child abuse at the 3rd Annual Child Abuse Conference in Salem.

On February 12th, 2009, the Child Abuse Training Committee of the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) presented awards at the 3rd Annual Child Abuse Conference.

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger was the keynote speaker at the awards luncheon, emphasizing the importance of combating child abuse and keeping our kids safe. The following five individuals received awards:

* The "Prosecutor of the Year" award went to Deputy District Attorney Courtland Geyer from the Marion County District Attorney's Office.

* The "DHS Case Worker of the Year" award went to Caseworker Bruce Smith from the Department of Human Services Hillsboro Child Welfare Office.

* The "Medical Treatment Facility or Provider of the Year" award went to Dr. Sue Skinner from CARES NW in Portland.

* The "Multi-Disciplinary Team Member of the Year" award went to Director Lisa Galovich from the Columbia County Child Assessment Center (Amani Center).
