Cartoon Strip: Nota Bene by Leonardo No. 82 - The Swiftboat Boys at PlayGlen Bledsoe Salem-News.comThis is the eighty-second installment of the Salem-News.com original series "Nota Bene by Leonardo" by Salem cartoonist Glen Bledsoe.
(Earth-Zed) - These are historic times across the universes-in-parallel. Earths of all variations will make important decisions in choosing their leaders of the most powerful nation on their planet. Who it will be will alter the fate of their world. (Of course there are worlds in which Al Gore won the 2000 election and the issues of global warming, for example, have been firmly addressed.) Obama? Clinton? McCain? Huckabee? Will the agents behind the powers let the will of the people rule the day? Will the boys in the back room make our decisions for us? Or will the Swiftboat Boys sabotage the democratic process with lies and innuendo? Frame 1 | Frame 2 | Frame 3 | Frame 4 Related Nota Bene |

Each strip is published on Wednesday, but of course is created at least five days before that. Sometimes I make last minute changes to reflect the change in the news. Sometimes, unfortunately, the topics are a little cold by the time they reach my audience. Sometimes, when I'm lucky, I'm just a hair ahead of the news. For example, using Mr. Obama's middle name "Hussein" to install a negative image on the public's mind -- a tactic center to "The Swiftboat Boys at Play" -- found its way into talk-show host Bill Cunningham's presentation at a McCain rally on Monday, Feb 25th. (I have to wonder is Bill Cunningham a reader of Nota Bene?) McCain, to his credit, apologized and called the remark "totally inappropriate." Bill Cunningham in return denounced McCain and switched his support to Hillary. Leonardo February 23, 2008 7:59 am (Pacific time) Oh my! What an cutting remark. Please stop. It hurts. You win.
