25th-bicycle-corps-11Of all the remarkable stories told about the U.S. Army’s all-Black cavalries known as the Buffalo Soldiers, the most remarkable of all is surely that of the 25th Infantry Brigade Bicycle Corps. 19 soldiers rode cross-country from Fort Missoula in Montana to St. Louis, Mo. “They were a specialized unit who were able to test the bicycle to see if they could be used in lieu of horses,” says Pferron Doss, a former Black Studies professor at the University of Missoula. “The bike never really took off as a military tool, but the energy that took off from the bike corps caught attention worldwide” … To read the whole story click here
JUDGE RULES WIKILEAKS ASSANGE MUST BE EXTRADITED TO SWEDEN Lawyer for Julian Assange says he will launch appeal

Judge Howard Riddle said the allegations of rape and sexual molestation by two women are extraditable offenses and a Swedish warrant was properly issued. Assange has been out on bail during the extradition fight, and has seven days to appeal the ruling to the High Court. Riddle said "there is simply no reason to believe there has been a mistake" about the arrest warrant. Assange's lawyers have questioned Sweden's judicial process … To check the details click here

Something very weird is afoot. I have been hearing commentators suggest that the invasion of Iraq and the ouster of Saddam Hussein in 2003 set the stage for the current Arab democratic revolt … When I first heard this, I assumed that someone was joking or being sarcastic. The foreign policy view of the so-called neo-conservatives, the largely Republican group that dominated foreign policy debates during the George W. Bush administration, was one calling for an active and interventionist role in installing pro-U.S. governments. The neo-cons called these governments "democratic," but what they meant by that was permitting people to vote as long as they vote for pro-U.S. candidates … To read what Bill says click here
