Snow Advisory Issued for Willamette Valley, Oregon Coast RangeSalem-News.comSnow/rain/and wind is affecting commuters in the Salem-area. Police are advising motorist to SLOW DOWN and use caution throughout the day.
(SALEM) - The National Weather Service has issued a Snow Advisory for the Willamette Valley, including the Cascade foothills in Marion and Linn counties, and a Heavy Snow Warning is in effect for the Oregon Coast Range including Polk and Yamhill counties until 6:00 PM this evening. A light snow/rain shower began just after 5:00 AM in the Salem-area. The band of showers is moving into the Willamette Valley is weakening as it moves into drier air. This will limit snow accumulations on the valley floor. Showers of snow/rain will increase this afternoon as the low pressure system moves across the region with 1 to 3 inches of snow above 500 feet and rain below 500 feet. In the coast range, travelers should expect 3 to 4 inches of snow this morning, with an additional 3 to 6 inches later today. A High Wind Warning has been issued for the central Oregon coast until noon today. A Snow Advisory means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Be Prepared for snow covered roads and limited visiblities and use caution while driving. School Delays and Closures: Yamhill-Carlton Sch. Dist.: All AM buses except 4-5-6 on snow routes. School on time. Willamina Sch. Dist.: Buses on snow rts. Lane Co. Schools: Blachly - 2 hrs late, no AM kind. Junction City - Due to inclement weather in outlying areas, busses will be on snow routes for both the A.M. and P.M. today. Columbia Co. Schools: Vernonia Sch. Dist.: On time - MAY CLOSE EARLY.
