High Wind & Surf Advisories Issued for Willamette Valley and CoastSalem-News.comSnow/rain/and wind is affecting commuters in the Salem-area. Police are advising motorists to SLOW DOWN and use caution throughout the day.
(SALEM) - The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory until 7:00 PM for the Willamette Valley. South winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph with gusts to near 45 mph. The winds are being produced by a strong low pressure center that was along the north Oregon Coast this morning and is tracking inland near the northern Clark County border later today. Winds will ease later tonight as the low moves east. A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be 31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 45 and 57 mph. Needless to say, high winds may cause property damge. A High Surf Advisory is in effect until 2:00 PM, for the North and Central Oregon Coast. There have been 25 foot seas at Tillamook, according to the National Weather Service in Portland, built by a compact low pressure system 70 Miles southwest of Tillamook. This low will move ashore around noon today. Seas of over 20 feet are likely today from Tillamook southward. Seas of this magnitude are capable of producing large pounding waves along the beaches. These waves can toss beach logs and other debris far up the beaches. People are urged to use caution on the beaches. Large sneaker waves are also possible at any time. A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area producing localized beach erosion.
