(Salem) - FM (Fibromyalgia) affects 10 million Americans, 90% of them women of all ages. Headquartered in Salem, OR, NFRA (National Fibromyalgia Research Association) has crafted a bracelet to help raise public awareness of this debilitating syndrome. FM produces chronic, body wide pain that migrates from head to toe accompanied by persistent fatigue, headaches, restless legs, cognitive impairment, low blood pressure, blurred vision, irritable bowel syndrome and non-restorative sleep. To date there is no cure or adequate treatment for Fibromyalgia. Each bracelet purchased at one dollar apiece helps raise public awareness, provides education and funds research to find the cause and cure for Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia awareness is crucial to:
Rae Gleason NFRA's director and spokesperson, was chosen to work with Jack Scott, the founder of the NFRA, in July of 1992 in Salem, Oregon. Subsequently, NFRA became a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization dedicated to education, treatment and finding a cure for fibromyalgia. Through Rae`s networking skills with professional health care providers and researchers, NFRA became a national advocacy leader in promoting fibromyalgia to the public and to the National Institutes of Health. Public awareness is so crucial, a special day, May 12, Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, has been set aside by patient advocates to help educate health reform legislators and the medical community regarding this painful, debilitating illness.
