Weather Causes Road Problems in Northwest Oregon
(Salem) - The Oregon Department of Transportation has reported that heavy rain and wind overnight caused a number of problems for drivers using state highways in Northwest Oregon. High water, downed trees and mudslides have caused hazardous driving conditions and a number of road closures. The most serious is as follows: Clatsop County * US 101 is closed between US 26 and Beerman Creek at Mileposts 23-25 because of high water. High tide is expected later in the morning which may keep the road closed until early afternoon. Motorists can use the Wilson River Loop road as an alternative route. * Highway 202 (Nehalem Highway) is closed at Milepost 28 after a tree took out a power line. It will be closed for much of the morning. * Highway 202 at Milepost 2.5, high water in the west bound lane but the road remains open in this area. Lane County * Highway 36: three mud slides have completely closed the highway between Mileposts 13-25. The highway will be closed for at least two hours and motorists should use an alternative route. Lincoln County * Highway 229 is closed between Mileposts 4-8. Trees are down along with power lines. The highway will be closed for at least two hours. Tillamook County * US 101 at Mileposts 64-66 from Lattimer Road to the Tillamook city limits, high water has closed the highway to all vehicles. Motorists can use the Wilson River Loop Road as a detour. * Highway 6 (Wilson River Highway) closed at Milepost 1. Detour is set up using Tillamook city side streets.
