(MOUNT HOOD) - A rented snowmobile carrying two young Portland men crashed in the Mount Hood wilderness area approximately 1/2 mile southwest of the intersection of US 26 and Skyline Road.

It happened Saturday morning around 8:45 AM. The operator, 16-year old George Paskar and the passenger, 20-year old Rubin Yahchuk, were both wearing helmets according to investigators. There were no reported witnesses but evidence indicates that the snowmobile missed a corner and ran into a tree.

Both of the young men were thrown from the machine. Another snowmobiler stopped to render assistance until AMR medics could respond. The victims were removed to the Skyline Road area by litter. A Life Flight helicopter responded to the scene and transported both to OHSU.

Both are being treated for unknown injuries. Family members of both men are at the hospital with them.

If anyone witnessed the crash, they are asked to contact OSP at (800) 452-7888.
