Keizer Police Officers Recognized During Awards Ceremony

Employees were recognized for service in 2007.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - The Keizer Police Officer’s Association hosted their annual Christmas banquet in December. Keizer Police Chief H. Marc Adams says the event allows him an opportunity not only to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of every department member and volunteer, but also to recognize those individuals who were selected to receive individual awards for their performance in 2007.

In addition to the individual annual awards, Chief Adams recognized several individuals for their years of service to the Keizer Police Department and citizens of Keizer.

The following is a list of who was recognized in each category:

POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR:
Officer B.J. Olafson – Officer Olafson was hired by the Keizer Police Department on September 20th 2003. Officer Olafson is currently assigned to the Patrol Division where he is a member of a patrol team. Officer Olafson is also one of the department’s defensive tactics instructors and is assigned to a crime prevention team that conducts a variety of presentations for Keizer citizens and businesses.

SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR:
Sergeant Greg Barber – Sergeant Barber was hired by the Keizer Police Department on May 17th 1993, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant on July 17th 1999. Sergeant Barber has been assigned to the Patrol Division and was previously a Detective in the Criminal Investigations Unit. He is currently supervises a patrol team in the Patrol Division and supervises the police department K-9 Unit.

MICHAEL ALEXANDER EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR:
Investigative Services Specialist Laurie Phillips – ISS Phillips was hired by the Keizer Police Department on January 3rd 1995. She is an Investigative Services Specialist where her primary job responsibility is to provide administrative and intelligence support to the Criminal Investigations Unit. She was also a Police Support Specialist prior to being assigned to her current position.

RESERVE OFFICER OF THE YEAR:
Richard Cummings – Reserve Officer Cummings has been employed as a Reserve Officer for the Keizer Police Department twice. He was originally hired on December 10th 1989 and resigned in good standing on August 23rd 1995. He returned to the Keizer Police Department on November 9th 2002. He volunteers a minimum of 24 hours per month to the Reserve Unit.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR:
Ted Plumb – Ted Plumb became a volunteer for the Keizer Police Department on December 1st 1997, and volunteers several hours each month for the Community Services Unit. A majority of Mr. Plumb’s volunteer time is spent enforcing or following up on vehicles that are in violation of the parking ordinance. He also spends a great deal of time enforcing handicap parking violations.

FIVE-YEAR EMPLOYMENT SERVICE PLAQUE:
Officer Scott Bigler – Officer Bigler was hired by the Keizer Police Department on February 2nd 2002. He is currently assigned as a patrol officer with the Patrol Division.

TEN-YEAR SERVICE PLAQUE:
Chief H. Marc Adams – Chief Adams was hired by the Keizer Police Department on December 8th 1997.

FIFTEEN-YEAR EMPLOYMENT SERVICE PLAQUE:
Sergeant David LeDay – Sergeant LeDay was hired by the Keizer Police Department on October 5th 1992. He was promoted to sergeant on December 27th 2003. He currently supervises a patrol team in the Patrol Division and is the coordinator of the police department’s Field Training Program. Additionally Sergeant LeDay is a member of the Marion County C.R.A.S.H. team.

Officer Tyler Wampler – Officer Wampler was hired by the Keizer Police Department on January 5th 1992. He has been assigned to Patrol and is currently assigned as a School Resource Officer at Whiteaker Middle School.

Officer Juan Mendoza – Officer Mendoza was hired by the Keizer Police Department on March 16th 1992. He has been assigned to Patrol and the Traffic Safety Team. He is currently assigned as a patrol officer on a patrol team.

TWENTY-YEAR EMPLOYMENT SERVICE PLAQUE:
Sergeant Alan McCowan – Sergeant McCowan was hired by the Keizer Police Department on November 21st 1987. He is the second most senior member of the Keizer Police Department and is only the second individual to have ever received a twenty-year service plaque from the Keizer Police Department. Sergeant McCowan has been assigned to Patrol and the Community Response Unit. He is currently supervises a patrol team in the Patrol Division and coordinates the police department’s Reserve Officer and Cadet Officer Programs.
