Silverton Road Closed by Fallen TreeSalem-News.comA tree falls across a major street in Salem, closing the at the intersection of Silverton Road and Evergreen Ave NE.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Just after 7:30 AM this morning, Salem Public Works crews were called out to deal with a large Tree that had fallen across Silverton Road NE closing this major street in Salem. As Salem Public Works responded to remove the tree, all four lanes of Silverton Road were closed in this area. Salem Police report that Silverton Rd NE is now fully open to eastbound traffic and partially open with one lane operating for westbound traffic. They say that Duncan St NE will continue to be closed at Silverton for several hours, probably not opening up until the evening hours to allow for repairs to the power poles and lines. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and to please be patient as crews take care of the problem. I was ten minutes late to my class at Chemeketa because I had to take the unexpected detour. Later, when driving back after the lanes had reopened, I saw them cutting up the tree. But at the time, I figured the road had been closed to purposely take out the tree. I didn't realize it had fallen over on its own. Lori B. January 31, 2008 3:28 pm (Pacific time) I was driving westbound on Silverton Rd and had to turn off to Park St, but I did notice that the eastbound traffic was still coming thru. Surprising that no one heard the tree fall..unless it was too soggy and made a squishy sound LOL Just glad no one was hurt! [Return to Top]View Most Commented on Leave a comment on this story.
