Woman Seriously Injured in DUII Related CrashSalem-News.comPolice say the crash remains under investigation.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police are investigating a serious crash early this morning that left one woman with life-threatening injuries. They say alcohol was a factor. Salem Police Lt. Dan Dietz reports that st 1:34 AM, the Salem Police Department responded to a serious traffic crash in the 3800 block of Liberty Rd. South. Due to the serious nature of the crash, the Salem Police Traffic Unit was called to conduct the investigation. 21-year old Kevin Cochran of Salem was the driver and sole occupant of a 2004 Dodge Dakota Pickup that was traveling north bound on Liberty Rd S. near Ewald Av. S. Dietz says he crossed into the southbound, oncoming lanes, of Liberty Rd. S., and crashed, head on, into a 2003 Honda Civic. Cochran's truck hit the front passenger side of the Honda then rolled onto the driver's side. The Honda was driven by 21-year old Katie E. Malone of Salem. 24-year old Micaela Maestas of Salem was riding as her passenger. Kevin Cochran was transported to Salem Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Katie Malone was also transported to Salem Hospital where she was admitted and is being treated. Micaela Maestas had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Salem Fire Department before being transported to the hospital. She has been admitted to Salem Hospital with life threatening head injuries and multiple fractures. Police say the crash remains under investigation.
