(AURORA, Ore. ) - The Oregon CAP continues to focus it's search efforts for missing pilot, Courtland Mumford, 65, of Portland on the Oregon Coastal area.

"The radar return that we received yesterday covers a significant portion of the Oregon Coastal area," said Lt Col. Pete Andersen, CAP Incident Commander for the CAP's search efforts.

"To cover this area properly is going to take time and resources and could possibly remain our prime search area into the weekend," he said.

"While this radar return does not specifically identify the Piper Cub that Mr. Mumford was piloting, the information contained in the return does fall within the search parameters that we are looking for" he said.

The CAP began their search for Mr. Mumford and his Piper Cub last Sunday when the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and Oregon Emergency Management tasked them with opening the search after he failed to return to Aurora Airport following a day of local flying.

The CAP, which has 8 planes and 35 personnel involved in the search Friday, expects to ramp up their search efforts over the weekend and into Sunday with more aircraft and crews from Washington Wing CAP to supplement Oregon search teams.

Mr. Mumford is in good health and is described as a 6'1" tall, 170-pound white male with gray hair and blue eyes.

"The Family has decided to openly request public assistance in trying to located Mr. Mumford and his aircraft," said Lt Col Thomas Traver, public affairs officer for the Oregon CAP.

Anyone who may have information on the possible location of the Piper Cub is requested to call the CAP Command Post at (503) 678-1889 and information on Mr. Mumford to please notify Detective Mike Weinstein of the Portland Police at (503) 823-0446.
