Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Memory of Oregon Soldier

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Governor Ted Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff throughout Oregon on Sunday in honor of Lance Corporal Juan Manuel Garcia-Schill. Garcia-Schill, 20, of Grants Pass, died July 2nd, while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twenty-nine Palms, California. “The death of Lance Corporal Garcia-Schill is a deep loss to his community and our entire state,” said Governor Kulongoski. “Our thoughts and prayers will be with his entire family and unit both locally and abroad during this time of grief and sorrow.”
