Police Officer Shot by Barricaded Suspect in Vancouver

The officer will survive the shooting.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - A police officer has been shot in a standoff in Vancouver, Washington. Police report that the man who pulled the trigger is barricaded in a home.

A SWAT team is on the scene and hostage negotiators are in place.

It began when police officers went to a home looking for a man who was suspected of firearm and drug charges.

KGW reports that police surrounded the home about 7:30 AM. In addition to being a wanted suspect, police learned about the possible hostages.

The house is located near 156th Avenue and SE 12th Street, which is close to Mountain View High School. Vancouver Police were assisted by U.S. Marshals, the Vancouver Bomb Squad, a SWAT team and the FBI.

The Associated Press reports that one woman was seen leaving the home. Investigators say they believe another man is still being held inside.

It is reported that the officer will survive his ordeal. Corporal Chris LeBlanc works with a special operations team. His gunshot wound under the arm is not a non life-threatening injury.

He is undergoing treatment at the Southwest Washington Medical Center.
