Driver Killed After Dump Truck Falls Off Bridge

The truck landed upside down in about 10 feet of water, trapping the driver in the cab.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - The Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Eugene Police, Eugene Fire, and Santa Clara Fire responded to an industrial accident at Delta Sand and Gravel on Tuesday.

An employee was operating a large Cat 769C dump truck on a single lane bridge.

For unknown reasons the dump truck went off the roadway and into the river.

The truck landed upside down in about 10 feet of water, trapping the driver in the cab.

Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Coordinator John Miller went into the water.

After several attempts he was able to free the driver from the cab of the truck.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification.

OSHA and the Lane County Sheriff’s office will be conducting the accident investigation in this case.
