KWVT in Salem Drops Analog Signal Sunday: Goes All DigitalSalem-News.comThe station is now all digital.
(SALEM, Ore.) - KWVT, Salem's only local broadcast station which has been broadcasting on digital channel 17.1 for some time, ceases broadcasting its ANALOG channel Sunday July 26th. The 213,000 house that KWVT serves will still be able to enjoy all the local and national programming on channel 17.1. In addition to KSLM-TV channel 17.2 with its "retro TV". THIS ONLY AFFECTS THE ANALOG CHANNEL. The final discontinuing of the analog channel comes after evaluation of potential viewers that may still have not installed their converter box or purchased a new TV and after running a graphic last weekend it was determined that the number of viewers effected would be minimal. "The hope is that remaining viewers will contact a local suppliers of antennas and convertor boxes like D&D here in Salem," said KWVT's Station Manager, Ken Lewetag. "It seems a there has been steady increase in the number of over the air viewers over the last year but more so in the last two months many seems to be coming from cable since viewers can now receive in most areas over 25 digital channels free, reversing a trend over recent years. Also at the same time Nielsen research show an increase in viewing of television in all age groups." He says KWVT is looking forward to proving it's High School football coverage in digital this year as well as it's other local and national programming.
