Retired FBI Agent Steve Moore calls Amanda Knox Forensics 'Horrible'

"Officer Gioia Brocci used collection swabs in the bathroom with wide wipes that would mix any DNA."

(ROME) - Retired FBI agent Steve Moore has spent hours watching the Amanda Knox crime scene video.   His experience and expertise lead him to say this:

"They were doing unsound forensic techniques that lead to cross contamination. Their techniques were ... horrible," he said. "If you showed that video tape in an American court you would have lost most of your evidence."

1.  Poor evidence collection procedures: dirty gloves, not changing footwear between rooms, loose hair, not using tweezers consistently, failure to process crime scene effectively and efficiently.  Not only was the bra clasp not collected until 47 days later, it was then passed between agents with dirty gloves and placed back on the floor to be photographed.

  2.  Failure to collect half of the victim’s clothes that were physically removed from her body. It wasn’t only the bra clasp that was collected 47 days later. Meredith Kercher’s blue Adidas jacket with sleeves turned inside out from being pulled off of her, her socks with blood on the cuffs from being removed by her killer, bra clasp which had been photographed early on, shoes, tote bag the killer may have looked through and a brown leather purse with blood near the zipper had also not been collected.  All of these items were left behind for 6 weeks uncollected until the Forensic Police went back to the cottage on Dec 18, 2007.  Rudy Guede's DNA was later found on the purse and jacket.

3. Hazmat outfits.  The Forensic Police were wearing the wrong gear.  In Hazmat outfits the footwear cannot be changed between rooms as required.

4. Patrizia Stefanoni obfuscated the truth when she said she didn’t do a blood test on luminol footprints.  She actually had performed a TMB test that got negative results. The FBI uses TMB and a negative result excludes the presence of blood.

5. Officer Gioia Brocci used collection swabs in the bathroom with wide wipes that would mix any DNA.  She also incorrectly used both sides of the collection swabs.

6. Failure to test a potential semen stain found on the pillow underneath the victim’s hips.

"The FBI uses TMB and a negative result excludes the presence of blood."

Ahh, Steve.  No.  TMB uses the same reactive process as luminol (it reacts with iron).  If the blood is sparse and luminol has already reacted with it, TMB can give a negative result.  But it DOES NOT exclude the presence of blood.

This guy seriously worked in law enforcement?  Every time he opens his mouth he makes another blunder.

American-sounding name! August 19, 2011 10:42 pm (Pacific time)

Oh, mamma mia! I am an Italian government shill, but my name sounds American enough, like Joe Smith or Brad Wilson or others! I'll use multiple names to pretend to be different people arguing bullshit!

Joquin Paquin August 6, 2011 12:08 pm (Pacific time)

She's guilty and KayPea/Dude are just silly children who will believe the last lie they are told. Warren Jeffs would have a field day with these two and anyone else who believes in their innocence are blind. she wont be home by Christmas

Both Amanda Knox and Raphaelle Sollecito are guilty of the rape torture and murder of Meredith Kercher. If you have trouble believing that then go to the web siter True Justice For Meredith Kercher and download the latest powerpoint. It will take you step by step through all the evidence placed by the prosecution to the jury and you will be able to judge for yourself why they were both found guilty on all counts

Amanda Knox and Raphaelle Sollecito are guilty of raping torturing and killing Meredith Kercher. the evidence does not lie. with any luck at all both their sentances will be increased to 30 years each. If you have trouble with this statement then go to True Justice For Meredith Kercher and download the latest powerpoint which will take you step by step through the crime and why both of them are guilty

Steve Moore is wrong. His vaulting ambition has blinded him. Amanda is guilty, her behavior and words prove it. Now Aviello the prisoner who jumped on the witness stand to help her has retracted his every word. He wept as he said he lied. He said he was paid 30,000 euros by Giulia Bongiorno and the defense lawyers with help from Sollecito family to lie and confuse matters. Now he claims he's sorry, and that when he was a cellmate of Raffaele's, he learned that Raf did not do the killing but was present at the murder and that Raf said Amanda did the killing. I guess Steve Moore isn't too interested in that testimony.

Billy July 30, 2011 6:42 pm (Pacific time)

and Casey is going to be very rich and probably Amanda as well

domenico grilli July 29, 2011 5:43 am (Pacific time)

Moore is another vulture trying to feed on Meredith's murder. Amanda is an assassin-her goose is cooked.

Jack July 29, 2011 5:19 am (Pacific time)

So Steve hasn't had a penny from any of those TV apperances, do ABC not pay these days? Spare me the Moore Martyr. Fact of the matter is, if Amanda Knox was called Lloyd and was a 6' 3" black dude, Steve would still be working at Pepperdine. I have a brain and a college diploma yet I think she's guilty. The defence should try looking at from an outsiders point of view...innocent people don't try and get other innocent people put away for life like Amanda did.

Michelle Moore July 29, 2011 1:21 am (Pacific time)

Hey, I know that guy. I can vouch that he's been involved in this for all the right reasons, just as most of the people here. It would be a horribly wrong thing to see this happening and not speak out. And he did and somebody actually listened., believed him, and wanted to now more. Lost have been in this grass roots effort. Go Team America!!!

Sienna Reid July 29, 2011 12:21 am (Pacific time)

The family of Meredith do not benefit from the prosecution of innocent people. There is no reason to defend the corrupt system that put two innocent people in jail and took attention away from the real killer. There is no reason that the truth should not be found. Hiding the truth and convicting innocent people so that idiots can save face is a crime beyond belief. The truth will be revealed by time. This case has no precedents in any of the famous cases that people love to mention- that kind of behavior only helps to distract from the truth with more deception and lies.

RickB July 28, 2011 7:13 pm (Pacific time)

Steve Moore has not made a dime off this case. In fact, he lost his job defending the innocent. Jack, is your last name "Off"?

Zooks July 28, 2011 3:06 pm (Pacific time)

Wow, I can't believe how bad those keystone cops bungled this case and investigation. A bunch of clowns in space suits. I hope the Kercher family sues the police and prosecution in this case for the addition pain they have been put through. Thanks to Steve Moore for bringing out how outrageous this is. Four yrs wasted for innocent people. It's a crime.

boney July 28, 2011 12:15 pm (Pacific time)

let me guess. oj is not guilty, blake is not guilty, casey is not guilty, hitler bla bla bla

KS July 28, 2011 9:38 am (Pacific time)

I followed this story from the get go and it never made sense that Amanda or her boyfriend were involved. The facts and evidence were never there. I was very surprised she was found guilty. I am glad the truth about the tainted investigation is finally coming to light. And Jack - of course the victim's family are going to stand by the conviction - they want someone to be held accountable, but that doesn't make it the truth.

Kitty Waters July 28, 2011 7:29 am (Pacific time)

Thanks Steve Moore for getting this information out there in the public arena. Our attention must remain firmly focused on this case until Amanda and Raffaele are safely back home with their families.

KayPea July 28, 2011 7:15 am (Pacific time)

First, the Knox family money is tied up in the Italian court system. They do not pay anyone anything to speak out for them. They cannot afford to take one dime from Amanda's case. Second, sentient beings can see for themselves that this case is riddled with lies and misinformation coming directly from the prosecution. Third, Guilter's continually spout the prosecution's POV and have never bothered to compare their diatribe with the defense POV. How is that fair? Frankly anyone still clinging to the belief that the prosecution 'got it right' is seriously deluded. The average high schooler can see that the investigation was mishandled. So where does that put the Guilter mentality? Eyes closed, fingers in the ears shouting La-La-La-La-La. There are three victims in this debacle and they all deserve justice. Let those who understand the process speak out in their defense. Meredith, Amanda and Raffaele are being screwed over by the Perugians. Thank you Steve for all that you have endured to protect the rights of these kids. One day, hopefully sooner rather than later, the Kercher's will KNOW that you have their best interests at heart as well as those of Amanda and Raffaele. Bravo Zulu!!

Tongan Sam July 28, 2011 5:10 am (Pacific time)

It is in the news that an investigation has started to investigate the bribery claims by one of the dubious defense witnesses.

Jack Squat July 28, 2011 5:01 am (Pacific time)

The prosecutor has accused everyone--defendants' families, lawyers, reporters, the independent experts, etc. with anything they can conjure. That means nothing other than that the prosecutor is unwilling to let the truth be known about his MISHANDLING OF THE CASE. You, sir, are deluded.

Jack July 28, 2011 4:25 am (Pacific time)

The defense has been accused of bribing witnesses in Italy. The Knox family/TV networks paid Steve Moore for his US TV appearances. Steve is planning to write a book on the case from which he will profit. The only people not making money out of this case is the family of the victim, Meredith Kercher, who have stood by the original guilty verdicts for Knox and Sollecito. I'm going to take their word over the word of a man cashing in on a tragedy.
