Salem Public Works Says Traffic Lights are Out Due to Power OutageSalem-News.comDrivers need to use extreme caution until the power outage is resolved.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Public Works crews are responding to a number of locations over a power outage that is affecting city blocks north of downtown. They say traffic signals are out in NE Salem along Broadway at Market, Hood and Liberty Streets. Also on Summer Street and Capitol Streets between D Streets and Erickson Streets. Salem Public Works crews are responding to these locations. Salem Police Dept.: Due to a power line down at Fairgrounds and Jefferson St NE, there are traffic problems in North Salem. The traffic lights at Market St NE and Capitol, Market and Summer, Market and Broadway, Market and Liberty, Salem Police Lt. Chuck Bennet says the above areas are not the only areas affected by the outage, "other intersections north of these have no power. Motorists need to avoid the area if possible and use caution." He says that when drivers approach these powerless intersections as though they were a stop sign and always come to a complete stop before proceeding into the intersection. Drivers should also assume that others may not know the rules, drive defensively.
