Salem Fire Department Holding Training Exercise TodaySalem-News.com
(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Firefighters will be conducting a Burn-to-Learn on Friday June 1st, from 8:00 AM until approximately 3:00 PM in the 500 block of Statesman Street NE. Two homes will be burned; one at 541 Statesman and the other at 545 Statesman. Statesman Street between A Street and Center Street will be closed to all traffic during the exercise. A Burn-to-Learn is a controlled exercise that allows firefighters to practice tactics and strategies under controlled conditions. It provides true to life experience dealing with "live fire." Training that can be accomplished in a Burn-to-Learn include hose stream application, observing fire behavior in flame over and flashover conditions, practice using Thermal Imaging Cameras, ventilation operations and first alarm fire attack simulations. These exercises can provide an opportunity for fire commanders to practice command skills such as firefighter accountability, resource and personnel direction, and incident support functions. Burn-to-Learns provide the best training possible to prepare us for the time when we will be protecting your life and your home from a real fire.
