(NEWBERG) - A 17-year veteran Detective with the Washington County Sheriff`s Office died Tuesday afternoon in a 3 vehicle crash northwest of Newberg. 48-year old Randall "Randy" L. Nunnenkamp of Hillsboro died at the scene of the 4:18 PM crash in the 14500 block of North Valley Road.

Investigators say a northbound vehicle crossed the centerline, striking Nunnenkamp on his 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was southbound. The vehicle then struck another vehicle head on, according to Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree, `This portion of North Valley Road is particularly dangerous due to its winding, narrow condition, with little shoulder, blind curves and multiple driveways. During commute times the road can become very busy."

The drivers and sole occupants of the other vehicles were 35-year old Jean Rene Woll of McMinnville, who was taken by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville and 19-year old Trent Ravi Long of Gaston. Long was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Emmanuel Hospital in Portland.

The crash remains under investigation by The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and the Multi Agency Traffic Team, which consists of members from the Sheriff's Office, McMinnville Police, Newberg Police, Carlton Police and the Oregon State Police.

No doubt the loss will be felt sharply throughout the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Randy Nunnenkamp's wife, Prevention Specialist Mary Nunnenkamp, works for the Washington County Commission on Children and Families, where she serves as Washington County's Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coordinator. Washington County originally hired Mary in 1976 as a communications dispatcher.

Both are known for their community spirit in working with local youth.

One of the couple's many volunteer activities has been providing Child Sex Abuse Prevention Workshops.

Salem-News.com offers our sincere condolences to the family of Detective Nunnenkamp, and his long-time friends and associates at the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
