Salem Structure Fire Serves as a Summer Safety Reminder (VIDEO)

There were no injuries at this fire. It took about twenty minutes for crews to bring it under control.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Firefighters in Salem, Oregon were busy Monday afternoon fighting a structure fire that broke out in a shed on Niles Street before spreading to an adjacent structure. Our news photographer Jerry Freeman was actually on scene before firefighters arrived. This is not something that happens every day in a city that has a Class A fire department which Salem does. In fact, news photographers will often agree that it is hard to get to fires in Class A environments and see flames at all. Many firefighters like Salem Battalion Chief Frank Stephenson, say this is an opportunity for residents to recall how dangerous fire conditions become during the hot months of summer. They hope people will remember how dangerous fire hazards are. There were no injuries in this fire. Nice article Tim. I was driving on my way back home and noticed something pretty big going on over on 12th St about halfway between the Circle K and the Elementary school there. There was caution tape and danger tape and a few city officials it looked like. Do you know anything about what happened over there? I'm just curious.
