Oregon Fugitive Arrested in MichiganSalem-News.comSpringer is being held in Kent County, Michigan, pending extradition back to Oregon
(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - After four months on the lamb, 21-year old Damien Andrew Springer of McMinnville was apprehended Friday around 2:00 p.m. by the United States Marshals Service in Grand Rapids Michigan. Mr. Springer had been eluding law enforcement authorities since failing to appear for a Yamhill County court date in late February 2009. Officials say Springer was arrested in February by McMinnville Police for Rape in the Third Degree, Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, and Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor Department. During this arrest, Springer was found in the company of another underage female who police say also disclosed sexual contact with Mr. Springer. Mr. Springer was granted conditional pre-trial release on those charges. An indictment was issued by a Grand Jury, but Springer failed to appear for his next court date. Since the initial charges, Mr. Springer has been featured on FOX 12's Most Wanted, and additional victims have been identified. Springer was lodged by United States Marshals Service Deputies in the Kent County, Michigan Correctional Facility and is pending extradition back to Oregon. McMinnville Police Department issued a word of thanks to the United States Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force for "their invaluable assistance in apprehending Mr. Springer." Anyone with additional information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Detective Sam Elliott of the McMinnville Police Department at (503)435-5615.
