Truck Driver Cited After Crash Closes Highway 58 for Six HoursSalem-News.comThe truck and trailer jack-knifed, overturned and slid down the highway until it came to a stop blocking all lanes.
(CRESCENT LAKE, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers say they cited a commercial truck driver following a non-injury crash that closed Highway 58 for six hours near Crescent Lake Sunday night. According to OSP Senior Trooper Joe Smith, the crash happened when a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with cases of motor oil was being driven by 34-year old Salvador Rivera of Escondido, California, was westbound on Highway 58 near milepost 61 at approximately 8:00 PM. Smith says the truck was traveling down an icy hill on Highway 58 approaching a curve at an excessive rate of speed for the conditions when RIivera lost control and crashed into a snow bank on the westbound shoulder. The truck and trailer jack-knifed, overturned and slid down the highway until it came to a stop blocking all lanes. Rivera Rivera was using safety restraints and was not injured. He was cited by Senior Trooper Smith for Careless Driving. There was no oncoming traffic, otherwise this could have been more serious than it was. ODOT personnel from Oakridge and Chemult responded and coordinated crash scene clearance. All lanes were closed for approximately 6 hours.
