Keizer Man Transported to Emanuel Hospital After Motorcycle CrashTim King Salem-News.comThe rider apparently only sustained minor injuries.
(SALEM) - A Keizer motorcycle rider is alive following what police describe as a high speed crash into a barn. Marion County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kevin Rau says 22-year-old James Mullins slid up to 1,500 feet before crashing. It happened in Keizer Monday shortly before 11:30 AM. Investigators at the scene say the bike was probably going over 100 mph when the crash happened. Investigators say Mullins was riding his 1994 Honda CBS motorcycle northbound in the 16500 block of River Rd N when he lost control of the bike which left the roadway and crashed into a barn. Rau says deputies are on scene now attempting to determine what caused the crash. "Preliminary information indicates that Mr Mullins may have been operating the motorcycle at a very high rate of speed as he entered a curve. It appears he was unable to negotiate the curve laid the motorcycle down and slid approximately 1500 feet before impacting the barn." At this point it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved. Rau says that when fire crews arrived, Mullins was conscious and talking. He was transported to Emanuel Hospital by Life Flight where he is being treated for his injuries. As of 3:30 PM, Emanuel Hospital staff told Deputies that Mr. Mullins appears to have sustained only minor cuts and scrapes and will be released soon. The road was expected to remain closed until 4:00 PM to allow crash reconstructionists to investigate.
