(ALBANY, Ore.) - On Monday, Albany Police Detectives arrested 27-year old Albany resident, Jamie Tennille Burkhart, on multiple sex offenses involving a minor boy.

Burkhart was lodged in the Linn County Jail on the following charges:

  • Sodomy in the First Degree (8 counts)
  • Sex Abuse in the First Degree (8 counts)
  • Attempted Rape in the First Degree (1 count)

The investigation began in early January 2007 when a 20-year old male reported that he had been sexually abused by Burkhart over a nearly 2-year period beginning in approximately 1996 when he was 10 years old.

During this timeframe, Jamie Tennille Burkhart operated the Winnie the Pooh Day Care center out of her Albany residence located at 5001 SW Pacific Boulevard #31.

Jamie Tennille Burkhart, a state certified day care provider, continued to provide daycare services until about 6 months ago.

The investigation is ongoing and there is reason to believe that there are more victims who have not been identified.

Anyone with any information regarding Jamie Tennille Burkhart is asked to call the Albany Police Department Detective Section at (541) 917-7686.

How can I be unattractive to pedihiles, rapist, scizophrenics, murderers, and drug addicts? I seems to attract them all. I'm not a cow either but exactly the opposite of one.

Curious January 11, 2008 9:28 pm (Pacific time)

Wondering what ever happened did the girl get sentenced or what? It would be nice to know these things I have been following this story.

Pediphiles are wrong anyway you look at it. A girl lied about her age when i had just turned 18 and it turned out she was actually only 15 and I did my time for it so if she gets off on these charges it would be a BIG shame....and for you that said she is unattractive...isnt that the truth...if she were 300 lbs smaller and had a different face she might very well get off on all of it...but come on look at the chick...feel sorry for the kid already I know her personally so I am able to say these things...

Sodomy is anything other than coitus. I hope that sodomy is allowed between adults in Oregon because it happens about a million times a night across the state.

Grimace et al: Agree more information now demanded. Is there a state association of home-care providers ? They should demand accountability from Oregon state certifying agency...with word to S-N as they act. Their failure may be tied to staff slashes due to budget stupidities over years. Did you seek any further coverage from SJ and Albany print-channels ? Why NOT ? Basic story theirs to cover. S-N workin' at it but needs your support; ask advertisers to seek us out, and then see what happens with multiplied staff. You already know what you gonna get from SJ.

I honestly regret that the few times an adult approached me at 16 or 17 that I did not have the courage to set something up with them in a secret meeting place. I feel that I was cheated but not being able to have sex with an "adult" in my 16th and 17th year. I am entitled to my feelings. I was ready and able but not willing because of parental and social pressure. If you were not that is your right. Many people married at 16 or earlier at the turn of the 20th century.

It's true that women don't usually suffer the same consequences as men, double-standards abound. I'm not a man-activist by any means, but I hate injustice. Have you noticed that that Fay woman at OSP is not being charged with a crime (felony) for having sex with a "client"? If she was a man...having sex with a woman prisoner...man, would the sXXt hit the fan then! But not for good ole Fay...

I agree with Curmudgeon.. the story needs to address this as this will surely cast a shadow on home child care providers. There is no way that someone can get certified at 16, if she worked in another home owners business, then she would need to complete a background check and certification from the federal govt. but not to run the business. I hope there would be some corrections to this story to limit the inpact it will have to all of our home child care providers.

C-M: Appreciate your insights and solid curiousity, as citizen. Fact of matter is that S-N and any other reporting source is often able only to relay whatever the authorities are willing to give-out on such story events. Solid reality is that most such facts are buried in legal matters, restrained to provide Constitutional rights to the accused --and properly so. Sometimes with reporter on site questions such as yours can be followed to demanding answers --but in this reality today that is NOT true in most situations due to trends about which you are already well informed. ALL dailies are forced to smaller staff and less support by burgeoning costs, this one included. We do best we can with what we can whomp-up for resources; give us some of those Gannett millions and watch us go !!

It will be interesting to follow this story to it's conclusion, in that most female pedophiles get far less punishment than males accused of the same crime. Hope she gets the equivalent of a male punishment.

Too bad she's unattractive. She'd be able to get off like Mary K laterno if she was a looker.

Go Girl! Go!

Curmudgeon March 6, 2007 12:53 pm (Pacific time)

If this started in 1996, eleven years ago, that means the suspect was only 16 years old at the time. This article says that she "operated the Winnie the Pooh Day Care center out of her Albany residence" at the time. When I read this, alarm bells go off immediately. What was a 16 year old girl doing running a day care center? Wouldn't that raise a lot of questions in the reporter's mind? I think that's something the reporter should have pursued before writing this article. This article raises a whole bunch of questions without providing any answers, or even clues. It says she is "state certified." How long has she been certified? Was she certified at 16? Did she own this residence at age 16?
