(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The William Randolph Hearst Foundation recently awarded the University of Portland a $100,000 grant. This grant represents the third of three grants from the Hearst Foundation to the University of Portland—all for $100,000 each— directed toward the University's Hearst Scholarship Endowment Fund.

The Hearst Scholarship was established at the University of Portland in December 1993, and was first awarded to a University of Portland student during the 1994-95 academic year.

Since then, more than 50 Hearst Scholarships have been awarded to UP students. Awards have been given to undergraduate students, freshman to seniors; many of these young men and women have received funding for multiple years as they have continued to meet the criteria for consideration.

Their majors represent every professional school/college on campus, from nursing to computer science, chemistry to Spanish, theology to elementary education, accounting to sociology.

In August 2006, Teri Yaeger, the Senior Program Officer from the Western Region/San Francisco offices, visited the UP campus and had a chance to meet not only with University President EWB and senior officers, but with six exceptional students--all current Hearst Scholars.
