Tigard Police Investigate Report of Bears Near HomeSalem-News.comParents in the area are urged to keep their children supervised outdoors and away from the area.
(TIGARD, Ore.) - Police say bears were spotted earlier today by a resident in the 13200 block of SW Ascension Drive in Tigard.
Officers were alerted and told the two bear cubs were in a tree which borders the property at that location.
Police confirmed that two bear cubs are perched in the trees and related caution that the mother bear, which has not been seen yet, may likely be in the area as well.
Jim Wolff, Public Information Officer with Tigard Police, says the big concern is that if a human were to get too close to the bears, the mother bear may perceive that as a threat to her den and resort to her instincts to protect the cubs.
Needless to say, bears that are disturbed can become aggressive and they are potentially dangerous and deadly toward human beings.
