AM et al: Who knows "war" any better than a very great General ? "War"-quoted since it has now clearly become simplest way to disguise complete attack on basic democratic principles under guise of that old shibboleth "patriotism".

Osotan; March 16, 2007 6:36 am (Pacific time)

the article in the News-Times of Newport is very much worth reading along with S-N's coverage. The photo will break your heart, speaking for myself of course. Every time I've thought of this one I start to cry till I have to hide my face I'm so pissed off I can't be positive anymore about it, the God Damn liars and their "patriotic" B.S. can go to hell., "only the good die young"

AM in the PM March 15, 2007 11:07 pm (Pacific time)

Thank you Hank for reminding people with a direct quote from the favorite President of my life. Susan Eisenhower is trying to keep the decency and honesty of her grandfather's legacy going. I am grateful that she grew into a brilliant woman.

Most of us will agree, now, with Ike: "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." -- Dwight D. Eisenhower

Dear Joseph March 15, 2007 3:25 pm (Pacific time)

It does seem that there is a pattern of the good dying young...innocent and decent people seem to be the first to go...not always. I was not trying to exploit young people that really believe in what they are doing but so many return with regrets and as they get older the truth comes out and they feel betrayed as they see the total picture. Vietnam Vets often feel this way, but not always. The Windsor family can never be the same. I do not want other families to suffer and always feel the empty space that the Windsors are feeling. Beside sadness, they must or eventually will feel anger. I hope they realize they are not alone which is of little or no consolation. They want there son back but this can not be. Until you lose a child you can not know the pain and each family deals with it differently. People should not ask why anymore but know the reasons. If you seek answers in the media you will get the publicity machine of the government and the defense industry. To close on your most important point; when people see a ten year old Iraqi boy with his legs blown off and an eye missing or see the reality of death, they will speak up and showing them makes them more than a number. I was watching a documentary on the first day in Iraq and not one "smart" bomb hit its target. So many people and children screaming from pain with terrible injuries some not making it....then the two pilots that dropped the first bombs with all American smiles talking about how proud they are of what they did and it is not their job to question. They are only taking orders...where have we all heard that before? You are obviously hurting and for that "I" am sorry.

Joseph Chavez March 15, 2007 1:35 pm (Pacific time)

Im sorry if I came off a little hot in my last comment, I completlely agree, why are we over there when our people need help. The only thing that bothered me about what you were saying is it just seemed like you want to show all these great Americans dead and dieing, who to many people are just a number. So that it would help fuel a political statement and Anti-war movement. And in my opinion there are a lot better ways then to exploit, the greatest people on earth dead and dieing. "Only the good die young".

To: Joseph from Dear S. March 15, 2007 9:28 am (Pacific time)

As you get older you will have to see alot of ugly things. One of my parents died from an accident. Seeing it in person is much harder than T.V. LaMarche is correct. I am not only blaming the media. I am blaming the defense industry for influencing our officials to not let the people see what war especially not needed war is all about. I am trying to educate people. We are only in Iraq to establish more bases, the same with Afghanistan. People need help here at home. It seems every month I hear about a suicide or sickness or death because of a medical neglect situation. War is a business. You should go to one of the war shows in D.C. and see how each defense company sets up booths to promote their products. Many people in the defense industry used to be in the military and vice versa. They all know each other and give contracts because in simple terms they are immoral greedy crooks. We had no business going into Iraq. The administration tryed to blur the line by linking Iraq to 9/11. We were attacked by terrorists from Saudi Arabia....that is assuming there was no collusion with the C.I.A. Osama bin Laden was trained and helped by the U.S. when the Soviets wanted to invade Afghanistan. Sadaam Hussein was our favorite boy in the middle east. Why he invaded Kuwait....I do not know the truth yet. But prior to this our administration told him that he could have whatever he wanted to fight Iran after the deposed puppet Shah was put in by us. The Iranians have a right to hate us. When they threw the Shah out Sadaam was scared and they had a bloody war with tremendous casualties in Iraq. When Muhammed Mossadeq overthrew the Shah because he was allowing Britain to take all of Iran's oil resources, we stepped in to put the puppet Shah back. You should be angry at our corrupt government...not me. This war was sold to the American people as are most wars because of the huge wealth created to a few individuals in the system. I am sickened by the fact that a 20 year old was killed to make the slobs in this old scheme rich. All of our resources are going overseas to things that have not long term return. We need help here...Katrina being a cliche example at this point. Why should a kid in Iraq get extra school books when some American kids do not have adequate academic resources? All of this money is going to serve the defense industry even for the the publicity of the media showing a kid overseas with a book.

by the way; March 15, 2007 7:08 am (Pacific time)

my son's name is Nathan. S.L.

S.LaMarche; March 15, 2007 6:14 am (Pacific time)

To Mr. Chavez; I am a 'Nam vet, Golf co. 2/3, two hearts, and we took heavy casualties at team, squad.,platoon.,company and battalion levels and memories like yours are there thirty five years on. So listen if you would, the guy who wrote comment after mine wasn't dissin' your brother.,the coverage in the late 60's early 70's actually showed the bodies and worse, the way you and I and anybody that's "been in the shit" know how it really is. I am hoping you survive bro and stay on this newsline cause not one of you is forgotten! We get to see the liars on the media and they are who second comment aimed at in my interpretation. Semper Fi! and walk where the buffalo tracks are, God Damn it!,keep your head down man!,the best intent.,get back !

Joseph Chavez March 15, 2007 5:13 am (Pacific time)

Who ever posted that last comment, I was one of Nathan Windsors Best Friends. We were brothers! And to be frankly honest I would not want to see my brothers body in the streets of Iraq bleeding all over the place from the sniper shot to the neck that he took... Perhaps you don't understand why they don't allow those inappropriate pictures on TV because I am guessing you haven't lost anyone over there. Only about 2-3 weeks before my dear friend Nathan was killed, another dear friend of mine who served with Nathan in the same unit was killed. So don't fight to see other peoples brothers, and suns and friends, dead bodies on TV until you first watch your family and friends dead on TV...

Dear S. LaMarche March 14, 2007 7:55 pm (Pacific time)

When Lockheed Martin, Kellog Brown and Root, Raytheon, Boeing no longer have our Congress beholden to them. The media is no longer allowed to show the dead in the same way as they were during Vietnam. The "imbedding" of jounalists is done to make the reporter identify with the military which can destroy objectivity in reporting. We are not a democracy and there is no freedom. See "Why We Fight". We now have over 800 military bases in only 135 countries prox. All the money that could build schools, shelter, hospitals is going to the defense industry. The Soviet Union spent all of its money on the arms race and that is the main reason that it collapsed. We are collapsing.

S.LaMarche; March 14, 2007 7:27 pm (Pacific time)

I'm sorry Nathan, and for the family and those who knew you. You are not forgotten! How many more Mr. "war president"?
