One Person Dies in Crash Near Annex, OregonSalem-News.comThe single-car crash happened on Highway 95 Spur entering Annex.
(ANNEX, Ore.) - Police say one person died Sunday morning in eastern Oregon when the car he was driving failed to negotiate a curve on Highway 95 Spur entering the town of Annex, and crashed into a power pole. The car caught fire and the victim, who has been tentatively identified, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Oregon State Police Sergeant Jason Reese says Sunday at 5:35 a.m., a 2001 Dodge Stratus driven by the victim was northbound on Highway 95 Spur near Quince Road entering Annex when it failed to negotiate a curve. "The car impacted into a power pole, shearing it off at its base, and came to rest on its side against a second power pole. Upon impact with the power poles the car burst into flames." Reese says Weiser, Idaho Fire and Ambulance and Washington County, Idaho Sheriffs Office arrived, extinguished the fire and confirmed the fatality. He says the preliminary investigation has tentatively identified the victim as an 18-year old male from Nampa, Idaho. The victim's name will be released upon approval from the medical examiner. OSP troopers from the Ontario Area Command office are continuing the investigation with the assistance of Idaho State Police and Payette, Idaho Police Department. Alcohol is a possible contributing factor. Idaho Power, Weiser Fire and Ambulance, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Malheur County Sheriff's Office, and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway was closed for 4 hours.
