Solider Born and Raised in Oregon Killed in IraqSalem-News.comHe becomes the 74 military member from, or with ties to Oregon to die in Iraq or Afghanistan.
(La GRANDE, Ore. ) - Another solider with ties to Oregon has died in Iraq. Army Sgt. 1st Class John S. Stephens died when an explosive device hit the command vehicle he was driving according to family members. They said they are still awaiting the official report from the military. Stephens was born in Prineville, and raised in La Grande. The 43-year old has served in the Army as a medic for more than 20 years. This was his third tour to Iraq. He leaves behind his parents in La Grande and his wife in Germany, and three grown children and two grandchildren. We just left Fort Rily 6 Mohnth ago. SGT Stephens was the best NCO in the world ! SGT Stephens loved fishing and he allways laught. He took care of his soldies and the family. You don't find this very often. My husband loved working with him and we will miss him terribly. My husband is in Irak right now and is heartbroken. He will be allways in our hearts.
