(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Hospital and the Salem area have grown up together. When Salem Hospital opened its doors it had five beds, and served the 4,000 people who lived in Salem.

Today, Salem Hospital serves both Marion and Polk counties, and beyond. With a combined population of more than 378,000 people, much has changed in these two counties.

Much has changed in healthcare in the past 112 years, also. The practice of medicine has changed as research has identified protocols that, when consistently employed, help caregivers get better results for their patients.

Companies now assess how well hospitals do in providing that quality, evidence-based care, and make the information public. Salem Hospital’s intensive work to improve quality has garnered the hospital a number of recent awards.

The physical structure of hospitals has also changed. Small surgery rooms have morphed into large suites with robotic and imaging equipment. Hospitals can now be designed to help people heal. And hospitals are now often the center for responding to man made and natural disasters.

These changes all lead Salem Hospital to decide to make a major investment to replace its aging facility. Come learn about the hospital’s facility-replacement project and how it will help improve healthcare and the health of the community.
