Deputy Police Chief Promoted in Salem

He has served in a number of capacities during his time at Salem PD.

(SALEM) - Lieutenant Steven Bellshaw has been promoted to Deputy Chief of Salem Police. Police Chief Gerald Moore promoted Steve after a selection process that included 21 applicants from law enforcement agencies across the country. Steve is a 17 year veteran of Salem Police Department, hired July 5th, 1989. Steve's assignments as an officer have included Patrol officer and a Detective assignment where he investigated sex crimes and homicides.

Bellshaw was promoted to sergeant in April 1998 and served as the Youth Services Supervisor. He was also the founding Sergeant of the CEASE Team, working drug house and nuisance complaints. Steve also served as the Internal Affairs Sergeant.

After a promotion to Lieutenant in October 2004, Bellshaw served as a patrol Shift Commander and supervisor of the Drug Activity Response Team, Street Crimes Unit, and the Crime Prevention Unit.

Other assignments include service on the Marion County Domestic Violence Council, Child Abuse Review Team and the Marion County Sexual Assault Team. Steve currently serves on the Attorney General's Sexual Assault Task Force, and as an instructor with the Sexual Assault Training Institute, traveling around the state teaching police officers how to investigate sexual assault cases. Steve graduated from Salem Academy and has a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Baptist College. Steve will serve as the Criminal Investigations Section Commander, supervising detectives, drug investigations, the gang team, Youth Services Unit, and the Domestic Violence Response Team.

Steve is married to Tammi Bellshaw, his wife of 20 years. They have 3 children ages 13, 16, and 19.
