(SALEM, Ore.) - The Willamette Chapter of the American Red Cross is accepting nominations for its prestigious Real Heroes Awards. There are nine categories of heroes and the deadline for submission is May 1st 2008.

The awards will be presented at the Real Heroes Breakfast on September 4th 2008. The event is held in September not only because it is National Disaster Preparedness Month but also as a time when we recall the incredible heroism of so many Americans following the attacks of September 11th.

Nomination forms are available on line at redcross-salem.org. The website chronicles the contributions of honorees and event history since 2005 through video clips and written accounts of heroism.

"The event is a vehicle to acknowledge the life-saving contributions of individuals & groups in the Marion/Polk community and raises awareness of Red Cross services," said Karen Schultz, executive director.

"In addition, the event helps support chapter services in disaster response, preparedness and first aid and CPR".
