(SALEM) - The National Weather Service radar indicates bands of showers moving to the northeast through the north and central Willamette Valley.

These showers will continue through the afternoon and evening.

Many of these showers will contain small hail. Brief thunderstorms with locally heavy downpours and lightning are possible.

Pea-sized hail has been reported in Salem and Portland.

If a thunderstorm approaches your location take appropriate shelter. Do not be caught out in open fields or under natural lighting rods like tall isolated trees.

Small hail and heavy showers can cause difficult breaking and motorists are advised to allow extra time to reach their destinations.
