(SALEM) - Pea-sized hail covered Salem-area streets and yards this afternoon as a strong spring storm passed over the area.

The falling hail didn’t last long in south Salem, but there were reports of up to an inch on the ground in the hills around west Salem.

Police urge drivers to use extra caution this evening due to the slick roadways from the recent rain and hail. Allow extra stopping distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, and allow extra time to get to your destination tonight should weather conditions worsen.

As of 5:00 PM there were no reports of any traffic accidents in and around the Salem-area.

Salem-Area Weather Forecast From Salem-News.com:

FRIDAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGHS AROUND 55.
