Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested in AlbanyGabriel Martinez faces charges of Attempted Homicide, Burglary in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Recklessly Endangering.
(ALBANY, Ore.) - Albany Police officers responding to a report of a shooting Saturday night at 11:30 PM, found 27-year-old Abram Delano inside his apartment on SE 15th Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds. Abram Delano was transported to Samaritan Albany General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The investigation revealed that Abram Delano and the shooting suspect, identified as 29-year old Gabriel Martinez of Albany, knew one another. Captain Eric Carter with Albany Police says Abram Delano had been at Gabriel Martinez's home earlier in the evening where the two got into an argument. "Abram Delano left and returned to his apartment. At approximately 11:30 PM. Gabriel Martinez and two relatives went to Abram Delano's apartment. Abram Delano and a relative went outside and confronted Gabriel Martinez." That Carter says, is when Gabriel Martinez drew a handgun and chased Abram Delano into his apartment. "Once inside the apartment, Gabriel Martinez fired approximately five rounds at Abram Delano," Carter added. No one else was injured during this event, Carter said. "However, Abram Delano's 3-year old son was asleep on a couch across from the front door when the shooting took place." The investigation revealed that two of the rounds fired by Gabriel Martinez struck the couch that Abram Delano's son was sleeping on and missed hitting him by inches. Carter says Abram Delano's girlfriend was also at home and ran into the kitchen holding her 1-year old son at the time of the shooting. Sunday at approximately 6:40 AM, Gabriel Martinez was taken into custody at his Albany home located on SE Foxwood Court after he returned home. Gabriel Martinez was taken into custody and taken to the Albany Police Department and was later lodged in the Linn County Jail. He faces charges of Attempted Homicide, Burglary in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Recklessly Endangering. This investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call the Albany Police Department at 541-917-7680.
